A study of different types of joinery.
The first piece of furniture made by yours truly :)

Date
Brief
To design a piece of furniture using at least four different joineries.
To use different materials to understand their properties.
Minimum dimension (45 x 45 x 45) cm.

At the time, I had recently researched on the 'Shakers Movement' and greatly admired their simple and functional approach to design.
Their furniture design was perfection to my design senses.
The final design was inspired by the nostalgic design of our school benches in my younger days.

Joineries
The seat is made of four pieces of teak wood. The outer pieces are joined to the leg pieces with Finger-joints / Box-Joints. The inner pieces are joined by Dowels made from bamboo.
Each leg is made of two pieces of plywood. The two pieces are joined by Butterfly-joints.
The legs are connected by four MS pipes. They connect to the plywood with the use of Allen-Bolts.
Color and Finish
The teak wood was finished in Laquer to make it look as natural as possible.
The plywood and MS pipes were finished by Spray Painting in light turquoise.
